🔹 U.S. Politics: Inquiry Launched into Jack Smith Over Hatch Act Allegations

Today, a federal investigation was opened into former DOJ prosecutor Jack Smith for potential violation of the Hatch Act, which prohibits certain political activities by federal officials. The probe, initiated at the request of Republican Senator Tom Cotton, centers around Smith’s high-profile investigations into Donald Trump, including the January 6 Capitol riot and classified document handling.
Smith previously filed two indictments against Trump but resigned in January 2025. Meanwhile, senior Republican lawmakers criticized Trump for firing Erika McEntarfer, the U.S. labor data chief, after disappointment at the July jobs report. The White House also distanced itself from its prior IVF insurance coverage stance, despite campaign promises (theguardian.com ) & (reuters.com )
